New Orleans Police Department Celebrates 220th Anniversary of its 1796 founding
The New Orleans Police Department will soon celebrate the 220th Anniversary of its founding in 1796. To commemorate this milestone event, we are working on a new, library quality, full-color, hardbound book that will document the remarkable history of our department, and honor the men and women who continue to protect our great city.

A detailed history of the New Orleans Police Department, exciting historic accounts, stories and full-color personnel portrait photos of current officers, personnel and retirees will be featured. The large, 9x12-inch, coffee-table style volume also will include division and unit information, awards, an "In Memoriam" tribute to members fallen in the line of duty. Retiree biographies, hundreds of historic and full-color photographs, and more!

We Need Your Help
To make the book as inclusive as possible, we are asking you to contribute by sending in historic accounts or stories, photos and other materials for consideration. Your contributions, together with the photos and historical data we are compiling, will not only showcase the department as a whole but also our members, both active and retired.

What You Need To Do

(New Orleans PD 220th Anniversary-brochure here)

Type or print your historic accounts or stories (1,000 word limit), including any significant events in which you were a part, or of which you have a particularly moving account. These stories can be humorous, action-oriented or can put a personal perspective on the event. Send each submission to the publisher to be reviewed and considered for possible inclusion in the book.

In addition, you may submit any photographs that relate to your story or the department in general (historic or current). Action photographs are preferred, but any interesting pictures should be submitted for consideration. When sending photographs, please write your name, address and a caption on the back explaining who and what is in the image, plus the date and location it was taken. All photographs will be returned to you after publication.
