Book Description

Just Giants is a definitive survey of the Giant Schnauzer that includes the very best breed related articles, artwork, collectibles, and hundreds of photographs. The 14 chapters include the History of the Breed in the U.S. and Europe, Analytical and Illustrated Studies of both the A.K.C. and F.C.I. breed standards, the Philosophy of Show Grooming, the Giant as a Working/Sporting Dog, the Giant Schnauzer in Art and Photography, and much more. Noteworthy Giant Schnauzer fanciers who contributed to Just Giants include: Judi Boston, Klaus Droop, Johan Gallant, Gay Glazbrook, Soo Han, Mary Jung, Greg Reyna, Yvonne Schilla, and Eladio Vallina.

About the Author

Enid purchased her first Giant Schnauzer in 1972 and 45 years later, she still lives with and loves the breed.

From the beginning, she has been active in the Giant Schnauzer Club of America (GSCA) and American Kennel Club Obedience, Tracking and Conformation.

Enid began judging obedience in 1976 and was approved as an AKC Judge in 1978. She wrote an obedience column for the GSCA’s monthly magazine, Giant Steps (1975-85). That column led to a monthly column in a National Obedience Newspaper, Front & Finish (1978-88), a number of breed publications throughout the years and finally an award winning annual magazine GIANT, which she co-published with Judi Boston from 1986 through 1991. GIANT started her quest for quality articles, photographs and artwork, all featuring the Giant Schnauzer.

In 1990, Enid, her husband, and their Giants moved to Germany, which is considered the Giant Schnauzers’ Fatherland. The five years she lived in Wiesbaden, gave her a unique opportunity to meet hundreds of top notch Giant Schnauzers, their breeders and fanciers from around the world, some of whom, have contributed chapters to this book.

In 2005, Enid published breed historian Yvonne Schilla’s The Giant Schnauzer in the United States: 1930 – 2005, as a 75th Anniversary Celebration of the breed. Between 2003 and 2011, Enid published a quarterly magazine for the South Central Giant Schnauzer Club.

All of the writers, photographers and artists who contributed to the above mentioned columns, newsletters, magazines and publications, over almost 30 years, played a roll in the creation of Just Giants. Finally, all the Giant Schnauzers and, most important, their breeders made Just Giants possible. Enid is forever grateful.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will also help other communities and organizations preserve their history through Our American Heritage Project, a non-profit organization.
