Book Description

Illustrated with more than 300 photographs, this account of the Country Club of Paducah’s rich and colorful history is a journalistic approach written by Vicki Hunkler.

The facts she discovered through numerous conversations with members, and through the study of the board minutes and the archives at the McCracken County Public Library and Paducah Sun newspaper are interesting and enlightening.

She weaves this story through a framework of milestone events that took place between the incorporation of the Country Club of Paducah in 1913 and the beginning of 2017. The men and women whose ideas, decisions, and accomplishments are highlighted in this history are the reason the club exists today

No other history has been written about the Country Club of Paducah, which makes it not only engaging, but also a necessity as we build on the past and move forward.

Let us salute the past and celebrate the future of the club and its members!

Author

Vicki Russell Hunkler, the author of this history, has a Master’s Degree in Journalism and many years of experience both as a writer and photographer. She first joined the Country Club of Paducah in 1979 as a tennis player and later switched to golf.

Her interest in golf was second nature having grown up in Mayfield with a father who caddied as a youngster and played the game for 40 years. Vicki attributes her creativity to her mother, Helen Frank, and her avid interest in sports to her father, Henry.

Vicki moved to Paducah in 1972 when she was hired as a reporter and photographer for the Sun-Democrat. A Murray State University graduate, she worked at the Paducah Sun most recently as a writer, photographer, and director of Posh Magazine.

A Florida resident from 1991 to 2008, Vicki was the Director of Marketing for a real estate development and BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens. She was named Marketing Director of the Year by the Gold Coast Builders Association and received the same award from the Florida Builders Association.

Compiling and writing this History of the Country Club of Paducah was the idea of Vicki’s husband, Chris Hunkler, who retired from the PGA of America before they moved to Paducah and became active members of the club.
