The Illustrated History of Robin Guitars

Retail Price: $29.95

In 1982, the dream of two Houston guitar lovers became a reality when they founded Robin Guitars. Their egalitarian visions of numerous uniquely-styled instruments quickly won over musicians in numerous nations who appreciated Robin’s innovative models.

This is the story of the determined efforts of Dave Wintz, Bart Wittrock, and their associates, who designed and crafted some of the most ingenious electric guitar styles in history. Thunder Out of Texas also includes the histories of ancillary Metropolitan and Alamo brands, recollections by noted Robin players, and over 500 color photographs.

Montgomery Native Willie Moseley Is Back With His 17th Book

Montgomery native and author Willie Moseley is keeping busy by releasing his 17th book ‘Thunder Out Of Texas: The Illustrated History of Robin Guitars’.

The book chronicles the history of the electric guitar company which was founded in Houston, Texas in 1982.

Co-founders David Wintz and Bart Wittrock took a unique approach by starting with imported instruments and later shifting to American-made guitars.

Senior Writer for Vintage Guitar magazine, Moseley shares the experiences of Wintz and Wittrock from their early days working out of an apartment to providing instruments to the likes of ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons.

Noting the abundance of books about high-end collectible guitars such as classic Gibson and Fender models, Moseley says he finds more joy in writing about the history of lesser-known brands.

“I’ve always had a thing for upstart guitar builders,” he says, “whether they’re in a factory or a cramped one-person luthier shop. I’d rather research and write about brands that are often obscure or underrated.”

‘Thunder Out Of Texas’ features over 500 images to validate its narrative and includes a forward by Billy Gibbons himself as well as recollections from guitarists such as the Texas born virtuoso Eric Johnson.

Published by Acclaim Press, ‘Thunder Out Of Texas: The Illustrated History of Robin Guitars’ is essential reading for guitarists and guitar enthusiasts alike and will be available beginning on October 18th, 2025.
