Here Comes the A-Train!

The Story of Basketball Legend Artis Gilmore

Retail Price: $21.95

IN HERE COMES THE A-TRAIN!, basketball legend Artis Gilmore takes a deep, introspective look at the important life lessons that took him from his rural Florida upbringings to the pinnacle of success in professional basketball. Dubbed “The A-Train” in comparison to the Chicago transit line, there was a time when Artis ruled the game…when protecting the rim and grabbing rebounds were taken for granted. Anyone who drove the lane against the A-Train paid a price. A gentle giant?…opposing teams would disagree!

Named Rookie of the Year, ABA Champion with the Kentucky Colonels, 11-time All-Star, and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (2011), Artis knows that true success in life is not about wins and losses, but learning that mastering the small things and overcoming difficult moments are the true keys to greatness.

Artis also looks back at highs and lows of his basketball career, from Carver High School, Jacksonville University, the Kentucky Colonels, and his days in the NBA, including an inside look at other legends of the game throughout his 18-year career.

Here Comes the A-Train! is the perfect gift for any basketball fan, and provides sound advice for success in all walks of life.

“Artis Gilmore always brought out the best in me on the basketball court. However, as much as we competed there, our time off the court with family and friends has cemented a lifetime friendship. Congratulations to my brother – ‘The A-Train’.”

-Julius Erving

“Artis is one of the greatest shot blockers in the history of the game. Anyone who can block a jump shot from the corner gets my total respect. I saw Artis do this on numerous occasions while playing against him in the ABA. He also was a great scorer and rebounder, but he’s even a better person. Artis is a Hall of Famer both on and off the court.”

-Rick Barry

“Artis was one of the greatest centers in basketball history, a true Hall of Fame player and a great teammate.”

-George Gervin

“Artis was one of the all time great centers in basketball history. An extraordinary shot blocker and rim protector, outstanding rebounder and an excellent scorer. And most importantly, a terrific teammate.”

-Dan Issel

“As one of the few men tall enough to look me straight in the eyes, Artis stood head and shoulders above most other players.
What a wonderful opportunity for more people to get to know about the extraordinary career and life of The A-Train.”
-Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
