OUR SENSE OF PLACE A History of Allen County, Kentucky Communities

Book Description

As a geographer and historian, Glen Conner became aware that many of the rural communities he had known through the years were changing. All were devolving, some even were losing their identity, and others had already faded into the past. Awareness of one’s sense of place develops when we become an adult. It is the feeling that connects a person with a specific place—a feeling that does not exist for any other location. This place is where our roots take hold. It is sustained and enhanced by the feeling of belonging engendered by the community itself.

Our Sense of Place describes the history of seventy named locations that, at one time, existed within one small Kentucky county—Allen County. Each community was occupied by people who were anchored there by their sense of place. This is their story.
